The annual event, sponsored by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service, will be held at various locations on the Texas A&M University campus in College Station. The event usually attracts more than 1,300 cattle producers across Texas and nationally.
“Our topics will fit right into what Texas beef producers are going through right now with regards to historic drought conditions and what to expect in the coming months,” said Dr. Jason Cleere, AgriLife Extension Service beef specialist and conference coordinator.
The following are program highlights:
- Aug. 1 general session will feature keynote speaker Dr. Temple Grandin, a professor at Colorado State University, specializing in cattle behavior and handling facilities; a climate outlook by Evelyn Browning-Garriss, who advises cattle producers and financial industries on climatic trends; and a cattle market outlook by Brett Stuart, economist with CattleFax. Various sessions will be held throughout the day as part of the cattleman’s college, including sessions on beef cattle nutrition, breeding, selection, forage management, financial management and other topics.
- Aug. 3: Various demonstrations on cattle handling, penning, selection and brush control.
- An industry trade show will be held Aug. 1-2, featuring more than 110 agricultural businesses and service exhibits.
