That’s what respondents said in the latest Progressive Cattleman online poll. After Iowa and Utah passed recent legislation penalizing the use of secret video on farms and ranches, we asked producers, “Should states pass legislation prohibiting activist videotape inside agricultural operations.”

Just under 70 percent of our respondents said, “Yes, ag operations are private property.” The other 30 percent said, “No, ag producers have nothing to hide.”

The issue grew in prominence after Utah passed and its governor signed a law to stop planted employees inside large ag operations who secretly document incidents of animal abuse.

More attention was made by secret video when the Humane Society of the U.S. released a video in May from a Wyoming pig farm that documented poor treatment of animals by workers.  end_mark
