That’s according to poll results as seen on progressivecattle.com. The question posed asked readers what their opinion was of EPA flyover surveillance authority. Over 87 percent of those who responded called it an “alarming use of government power.” Another 13 percent said it was “just part of the government’s inspection duties.”

Earlier this spring, members of Congress from Nebraska and other industry leaders sounded their disappointment in learning that airplanes are being used to monitor U.S. farms and feedlots for possible violations of the Clean Water Act.

Later statements by the EPA said the power to monitor operations from the air was approved by a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the 1980s, and that no citations had been issued by air surveillance alone.
