When asked, “how will you revise the use of antibiotics with your beef cattle in the coming year,” 68 percent said “No changes are necessary for my cattle.”

A combined 32 percent said they would change some measure of antibiotic control. Twenty-three percent said “By both consulting more with a vet, and reducing non-therapeutic use in cattle.” Nine percent said they’d “seek more consultation from a veterinarian on when to treat cattle.”

The Food and Drug Administration introduced new guidance documents in December 2013, after a yearlong review, to get producers to voluntarily comply with regulations restricting certain antibiotics in feed for growth and performance. The new measures include requirements for veterinarian oversight in all antibiotic uses.  end mark
