In a recent online poll, Progressive Cattleman asked, “What was the top cause of death loss in calves in your herd this calving season?”

There was a good diversity of answers. Only 10 percent said predators were the top cause of death, while 14 percent said dystocia was the major contributor to calf mortality on their operations. Another 19 percent said scours was the top cause of death. However, the 37 percent majority said weather was the main cause of calf morality this calving season.
