Readers were asked to weigh in on which segment will face the biggest challenges through 2013. Just over 40 percent said cow-calf producers.

The actual response – “Cow-calf: Finding nutrition for dams will be a struggle” was 16 percentage points larger than the next sector – the stockers.

Over 24 percent of responses said “Stockers: A shortage of good grazing land doesn’t look good.”

Twenty-two percent of respondents said “Feedlots: Excess capacity in the feedyard will hurt feeders.”

Another 12 percent said the packer industry would struggle to locate enough product.
